Commitment Where Do You Stand A covenant is a binding agreement between two parties. Jesus cut covenant for us when he was crucified. We should commit to his grace and mercy. To be a committed person of this covenant we must decide to give our lives to Jesus Christ by no longer walking in the ways of the world, but stepping up and allowing him to clean us up as we walk in obedience. It says in Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, and Pro 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy(high minded), and the evil way, and the forward(disobedient) mouth, do I hate. To walk in covenant COMMITMENT IS A MUST! In other words, a committed person is going to do what the Word says . What is commitment In Strongs the Greek word #4160 is poieo {poy-eh'-o} to (make i.e.) render one anything 1g1) to (make i.e.) constitute or appoint one anything, to appoint or ordain one that 1g2) to (make i.e.) declare one anything 1h) to put one forth, to lead him out 1i) to make one do something 1i1) cause one to 1j) to be the authors of a thing (to cause, bring about) 2) to do 2a) to act rightly, do well 2a1) to carry out, to execute 2b) to do a thing unto one 2b1) to do to one 2c) with designation of time: to pass, spend 2d) to celebrate, keep 2d1) to make ready, and so at the same time to institute, the celebration of the passover 2e) to perform: to a promise Dictionary definition-Process or instance of committing oneself-a pledge(binding promise) of undertaking Jesus Covenant with us is just as the statements above say. Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (render one anything-he gave his life) The covenant he made with Abraham is the same covenant we have because we are descendants of Abraham. When Peter spoke to the people in Acts after healing the lame man he said in Acts 3:25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. These passages in Genesis are part of the covenant Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. With commitment you must be willing to obey the Word What is the Word? These passages speak of the Word:
In the beginning was
the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God - John 1:1 So, the Word was made flesh(Jesus Christ), is truth, the way(route or course), truth, life, light.. If Jesus is all these things why choose the things of the world? They are of Satan(devil). John 10:10 tells us what Satan came to do and that was to kill, still and destroy. What are you seeing in the world today? Killing, stealing, lying, cheating, etc., and noone showing any remorse. There is uneasiness, there is fear, people have lost hope. Is that the way you want to live your life, when you can live in truth. John 10:10 also says that Jesus came that we might have life and it more abundantly. You can live in the light(Jesus) or darkness(Satan). There is more to life when you choose to walk in covenant with Jesus Christ Psa 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. YOU HAVE THE CHOICE In Deuteronomy 30:19 it says “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life( I am the way, the truth and the life... - John 14:6), that both thou and thy seed may live:” and Jos 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD Don’t let a person or material item be what you commit to for the Word says: The Word will never pass away - Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matt 24:35). Jer 9:23 Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: Jer 9:24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. Make a commitment to Jesus Christ and see what a difference in your life, it will bring-a covenant that cannot be broken What commitment brings There was a paragraph from About.com regarding health and religion that is below “The observation is real -- people who attend religious services regularly tend to live longer. The tough question is, why? It may be simply that people who attend religious services tend to have more social and financial resources than non-attendees, or it could be that something about attending religious services (like making connections with others, prayer, or spiritual reflection) helps people to live longer. You'll have to decide for yourself.” I look at what the doctors are continuing to study regarding commitment and these scriptures are proof of the findings for when you are committed to follow after Jesus, there is peace, comfort and a different thought pattern, which keeps the body from the stress of the world : Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law These are the things that the spirit of God brings into our lives, as spiritual characteristics that should be lived out through us. Phi 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Phi 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. 3John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. What if you compared how a Christian believer(follower after Christ), a person who doesn’t attend regularly and a person who is in the world, act when they are going through a major trial or adversity. I would say that: You would not be able to tell that the Christian has any troubles for they will be saying what God says(speaking the Word) You would see that the person who does not attend regularly is speaking nothing but negative words and that their countenance is down The non attendee is speaking gloom and doom and talking about giving up. They don’t want to be around people who try to encourage them. They wallow in their misery. Your life does not have to be that way. The Bible tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. It tells us to rejoice always. No matter what you go through if you are in covenant with Christ Jesus and committed to walk in obedience, the troubles that come upon you will not overtake you and give you a sense of hopelessness. Commitment is obedience and giving your life to God Commitment(giving your life over to God)is obtained by confessing him as your Lord and believing that he was raised from the dead. Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation The power of the Covenant is in the blood of Jesus. Make that eternal covenant with the Lord today. |
